Oh no I spilled porridge on my iPhone. Font size closes in on blushing just before the trees go dark. “Ideas are not necessary … This is not a composition. It is a place where things are, as on a table … Everything is so much the same, one becomes acutely aware of the differences, and … it is clear that the differences are [un- and] intentional.” Hot soup, people -- someone stumbled across Byron’s copy of Frankenstein! Signed by the author! (Real fear is betrayed by speaking in koans) Tens of thousands of birds, fish, wash up on Lake Erie shores. I wonder what would happen if something like this occurred among people? I mean, I have brought the great ball of crystal, who can fold the pillowcase now? Can you enter the great acorn of light? Can you bring the green bean casserole? The challenge she sets out is one of theorizing the sovereignty of the people in terms of a law capable of acknowledging its own constitutive lack and openness, its own impossible ground (or the impossibility of grounding it). Different traditions approach this lack in terms generosity, reflexivity, and constituent power. Natalie had her eye on this one; it smelled great on her. A variation on the original along the lines of Mugler’s “Taste of Fragrance” flankers, it was fruitier, with a jammy fig note, in the EDT, and the EDP seemed to have a more natural, petal-y floral accord. What’s fascinating about the horror of this strange creature from the farthest reaches of space, then, is not its uncanny alien otherness, but that it reminds us of our own homely origins the evolutionary heritage that leads back into the antediluvian slime world of our own microbial past. Which is not quite the same as saying, “We can no longer sit idly by as others steal our mouths, our anuses, our genitals, our nerves, our guts, our arteries. In order to fashion parts and works in an ignoble mechanism of production which links capital, exploitation and the family. We can no longer allow others to turn our mucous membranes, our skin, all our sensitive areas into occupied territory – territory controlled and regimented by others, to which we are forbidden access… We can no longer allow others to repress our fucking, control our shit, our saliva, our energies, all in conformity with the prescriptions of the law and its carefully defined little transgressions. We want to see frigid, imprisoned, mortified bodies exploded to bits, even if capitalism continues to demand that they be kept in check at the expense of our living bodies.” But hey. As we sympathize with freaks of nature, we thus spawn new, potentially deathly versions of them. A secret of transformation, a potato about to explode in us, monstrosity is determined by bonds so quasi-causal we can hardly trace them, much less predict them. Like She-Ra and her friends, we only turn into princesses of power through an occult feeling within: Fabulous secrets were revealed to me the day I held up my sword and said, ‘FOR THE HONOR OF GRAYSTONE!’
